ODEON: Selfie Station
Client: ODEON | Agency: Saturn Visual
Brief
ODEON approached us with the goal of enhancing their cinema foyers—transforming them from simple waiting areas into memorable spaces that added to the moviegoing experience. They wanted something interactive, visually striking, and most importantly, shareable. The idea was to create a “moment” for visitors—something that would encourage social sharing and make the foyer feel like an extension of the film itself, whilst also getting the ODEON brand out there.
Concepts
We came up with the idea of a Selfie Station—a playful, tech-driven photobooth experience that allows guests to place themselves right in the middle of the latest blockbuster. The station uses a screen and integrated camera system to take a photo, automatically cut out the subject(s), and drop them into a film-specific scene.
The unit itself was designed in the shape of the ‘O’ from the ODEON logo, giving it a bold and recognisable physical presence in the space. This helped tie the experience visually to the Odeon brand, while also making it feel like a genuine feature of the foyer.
Designs
I was responsible for designing both the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) for the Selfie Station. The goal was to make it as simple and enjoyable as possible for people of all ages to use—with a journey that felt intuitive from the moment they approached the screen.
Around the screen, the experience is framed by a custom-designed Foamex board—something I also designed to attract foot traffic and create a bold visual anchor in busy foyers.
Alongside the interface and hardware design, I also produce themed background and foreground assets for current film releases. Working directly with film distributors, I get approvals and ensure visual quality. Titles like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Wicked, and Smile 2 were among the first wave.
In Use
Now active in Odeon locations, the Selfie Station is consistently used and shared by cinema-goers. It has become a regular part of the cinema experience—boosting social engagement and turning foyer downtime into fun, brand-aligned interaction.
We continue to support the rollout with seasonal content, film tie-ins, and ongoing visual updates to keep things fresh - including the recent introduction of video backgrounds.
