Interactive Photo Booth
Client: ODEON
Agency: Saturn Visual
Brief
ODEON posed the challenge of enhancing their cinema foyers, transforming them from simple waiting areas into memorable spaces that added to the movie going experience. They wanted something interactive, visually striking, and most importantly, shareable. The idea was to create a “moment” for visitors, something that would encourage social sharing and make the foyer feel like an extension of the film itself, whilst also getting their brand out there. Which was the perfect opportunity to work up a creative, tech driven experience.
Concepts
Working closely with the client through some initial ideas, the Selfie Station was born. A playful, photobooth experience that allows guests to place themselves right in the middle of the latest film release. The station uses a screen and integrated camera system to take a photo, automatically cut out the subject(s), and drop them into a film-specific scene. And then people can download the picture and do what they like with it! (ideally share to social for brand awareness).
I came up with the concept of the unit itself, designed in the shape of the ‘O’ from the ODEON logo, giving it a bold and recognisable physical presence in the foyers. This helped tie the experience visually to the ODEON brand, while also making it feel like a genuine feature of the foyer. Below are the initial designs and concepts I came up with for the project.
Designs
I was responsible for designing both the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) for the Selfie Station. The printed surround around the unit itself as well as the animated content on screen & working with film distributors to create digital designs for relevant films.
